various APT things aren't awesome because we have no Perl

Reported by: bikeNomad Owned by: saurik
Priority: minor Component: Telesphoreo
Keywords: dselect Cc:

Description

Tried to run dselect; found no access methods set up. When I chose "apt" I get:

dselect (subprocess): unable to run query/setup script process '/usr/lib/dpkg/methods/apt/setup': no such file or directory

This is because setup is a perl script.

How should dselect be set up without perl?

  • summary changed from dselect can't run /usr/lib/dpkg/methods/apt/setup because no Perl to various APT things aren't awesome because we have no Perl

You currently can't use dselect as Perl has not been ported. I am working on Perl, but its gone incredibly slowly as OpenSSH wasn't quite working for signatures on 1.1.x and Perl's cross compilation support is just plain nuts. It might go better now.

Any progress on this. I recently upgraded to iPhone fw 2.1 from 1.1.4, and found that perl is no longer available, neither through Cydia nor that other thing. Does a port for 2.1 exist at all?

I found that somebody had done this already. Testing it now:
